⚠️ Key Warnings (Applies to All Tesla Models)

  • Never raise the vehicle while a charge cable is connected, even if charging is not in progress.
  • Only lift using the official jacking points. Lifting on the battery or side rails can cause serious damage.
  • Use appropriate lifting equipment and chock the wheels before raising.
  • Never work under a vehicle that is only supported by a jack. Use proper safety stands.
  • If your vehicle has air suspension, always enable Jack Mode to disable auto-leveling.

Note: Damage caused by incorrect lifting is not covered by Tesla’s warranty.

🚗 General Jacking Tips for All Tesla Models

  • Center the vehicle between lift posts.
  • Use lift arm pads or jacking pucks under the four designated jacking points (see diagrams in your owner’s manual).
  • Double-check pad alignment before lifting.
  • Close doors and windows, especially Falcon Wing Doors on Model X.
  • Don’t rush — taking a few extra seconds to check pad placement could save thousands in repairs.

Optional: Use jacking pucks for added protection, especially if you’re unsure about clearances.

🛞 Jacking a Tesla Model S, X or Cybertruck

Step 1: Check for Air Suspension

  • All Model X and Cybertruck vehicles have air suspension.
  • Model S: On the touchscreen, go to Controls. If you see “Suspension,” air suspension is installed.

Step 2: Activate Jack Mode

  1. Power on the car and confirm the key is recognized.
  2. Go to Controls > Suspension
  3. Press the brake and select Very High ride height.
  4. Still holding the brake, go to Controls > Service > Jack Mode
  5. Confirm that Jack Mode is active (look for the lifted wheel icon)
  6. Jack Mode deactivates when the car is driven above 7 km/h.

Step 3: Lift the Vehicle

  • Use only the green-labeled jacking points.
  • Do not lift under the battery pack.
  • Adjust lift pads to align perfectly before raising the vehicle.

🚨 For non-Tesla garages: Ensure they understand that incorrect lifting can void the warranty and cause serious damage.

🚙 Jacking a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y

  1. Center the vehicle between the lift posts.
  2. Locate the dedicated jacking points on the underside (refer to manual illustrations).
  3. Never lift from the battery or side rails (marked red in diagrams).
  4. Slowly lift the car with spotters if needed, checking pad position throughout.
  5. Engage lift safety locks before working.

❓ What Exactly Is the Jacking Point?

Jacking points are reinforced structural locations specifically designed to support the vehicle’s weight. They’re placed near each wheel but surrounded by vulnerable areas, including the high-voltage battery pack, worth about a third of the value of the new car.

If lift pads extend beyond these zones, even slightly, damage can occur. Always double-check placement before raising.

Bad technique: Lifting from the battery housing or any unsupported edge

Good technique: Using jacking blocks, hockey pucks, or Tesla jacking pucks precisely centered

🧰 Jacking Pucks and Blocks That Minimise Lifting Risk

You can get aftermarket jacking pucks that slide into the lifting hole.

While some have made their own DIY lifting blocks for Model X (which has 3 holes at each corner), the normal pucks have served us very well as they fit into the centre hole.

✅ Final Safety Reminders

  • Always close all doors, including Falcon Wings (Model X)
  • Never lift with passengers inside
  • Double-check Jack Mode is activated (for S/X/Cybertruck with air suspension)
  • Place wheel chocks front and rear
  • Place safety/jack stands under the car — never rely on a hydraulic jack alone

For the most accurate guidance, consult the lifting diagrams and procedures in your Tesla owner’s manual.
